Safe Autonomous Systems

Welcome to the web pages of the Safe Autonomous Systems (SAS) group at TU Dortmund University. The group was established in October 2024 under the direction of Prof. Dr. Sebastian Peitz. The mission of our team is to explore and advance methodologies for ensuring safety, reliability, and efficiency in autonomous systems. Our research activities focus on two central areas:

  • fundamental research at the intersection of dynamical systems, control theory, and machine learning: By combining insights from these disciplines, we aim to develop novel approaches for modeling complex systems and designing robust control strategies that ensure safe operation under dynamic and uncertain conditions.
  • multi-objective optimization and multi-objective machine learning: We create algorithms that effectively balance competing objectives—such as safety versus performance—while enabling data-driven decision-making in high-dimensional problem spaces.

Together, these research directions contribute to the development of innovative solutions for safe autonomous systems across a wide range of applications.

Where to find us: Our offices are in the Lamarr Institute (Google Maps) on the ground floor, right entrance.
